So I think it’s about time I share my new favourite shopping destination.
I want to reveal my one stop shop for absolute bargain vintage fashion finds. Vintage shops deserve to and NEED to be recognised – Now people recognise Craven Recycled Clothing Company!
Craven is tucked away nicely in Skipton. Recently I’ve fallen in love with this cosy and traditional town. Skipton is not as far away as it sounds, this seemingly distant land is actually only 40 mins on a train from Leeds. I promise Craven is worth the venture.
The shop itself has spirit – it’s totally vibrant and dynamic and full of stock to get your hands into. Craven feels totally active and youthful even though you’re handling items with a history.
Meet Scarlett and Derylin, the 2 women that have made Craven happen. #GRLPOWER
Derylin (Scarlett’s mother) opened Craven a couple of months ago, as she spotted a massive gap in the market for a vintage shop within Skipton. For such a cool place with cooler people it was missing out big time!
Derylin has been trading vintage clothes and accessories online for the past 15/20 years – so she knows her stuff! Derylin felt opening a shop is better suited to vintage selling as she recognises vintage loving customers, want to physically feel and assess second hand clothing in the flesh.
As an avid (and a wee bit obsessed), second-hand buyer myself I do find it hard to trust buying vintage online, a lot of the time. The experience of being in a vintage shop and the actual process of “rummaging” through stock is what makes it. You appreciate and love the hidden gems that you find.
Cravens’ main target audience is students, however it’s received a really mixed bag of attention from the community on Social Media and physical customers.
They stock everything from the 40’s through to second-hand high street pieces e.g Zara and Topshop. You seriously get your money’s worth and more!! As they’re a new business, trying to find their footing, they’ve got really low prices. I always leave with amazing new bits to add to my wardrobe for absolute pennies!
I especially love their shoes, bags, scarves, belts and other random vintage accessories you find dotted around the shop as well.
Social Media for Craven is MASSIVE. As they’re new to the Skipton area and the shop hasn’t got a lot of passing customer trade, they’ve had to really go to town on their Social Media promotion. Their Facebook and Instagram combined have been super successful and their followers are rapidly rising. Both of these accounts are maintained by Scarlett who consistently posts amazing content all relevant to Vintage Fashion. I love the Instagram especially as it’s vibrant and full of styling inspo. You can check out the Instagram here.
Craven are based on above Skipton Auction Rooms on Cavendish Street in Skipton – BD23 2AB. From Cavendish Street take the entrance for Venue and we are directly ahead! You can also park in Cavendish Street Car Park and walk through there.
Derylin sees the future of Craven to be a go-to-place for the customers to get key vintage pieces and for people to travel to the shop. Closer to Winter 2018 they will be putting out menswear stock which will be a seriously exciting expansion for the shop as then the husbands, boyfriends etc. that have been dragged by the women, have something to check out too. Hold tight bois!
